The Kaleidoscope Program provides the following support services to youth, families, and Lenawee County schools free of charge:
The Kaleidoscope Program aims to provide grieving youth with temporary support and guidance following a loss. Throughout office-based or school-based counseling sessions and groups, children and teens are provided with opportunities to explore thoughts and feelings relating to loss. By engaging in purposeful activities, children and teens will also develop and strengthen coping skills. It is a universal goal to provide each child and teen with the coping skills and supports necessary to becoming a healthy, productive adult: in mind, body, and spirit. As each child/teen’s grieving experience is unique, the Kaleidoscope Program provides an individualized approach in addressing their needs. To request grief support for your child/teen, please complete the Request for Services Form.
Please see Resources for Parents or call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323 with questions regarding children’s grief or to discuss concerns regarding your child/teen.
Hospice of Lenawee’s Bereavement Department provides grief counseling support to anyone in our community that has experienced a loss. If you and/or your child/teen should be interested in receiving grief support services, please complete the Request for Services Form or call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323.
Support groups allow grieving students the opportunity to connect and relate with others within their community who have experienced a loss. Group participants may have a variety of types of losses (i.e. loss of parent, grandparent, sibling). To inquire about our current group opportunities, please see Support Groups & Events or call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323.
The Kaleidoscope Program understands how grief can impact a student and school community, particularly as the responsibility to meet academic goals and classroom management continues. Schools have the potential to be uniquely equipped to support students who are grieving by providing preventative interventions through understanding and compassion, all within a consistent, non-judgmental environment. Grief can have a major impact on learning, processing thoughts, and retaining information. The Kaleidoscope Program partners with school districts in Lenawee County to bring grief and loss services into the schools where students can access them in a comfortable, familiar, and safe setting. This allows for greater accessibility of grief support services for youth who cannot easily visit the Hospice of Lenawee office. School-based support is open to students in 1st through 12th grades. Parents can request grief support services for their child/teen, by completing the Request for Services Form.
Please see Resources for Schools or call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323 to request educational materials and/or inquire about a grief and loss presentation for your school community.
Please call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323 and request to speak with the Bereavement Department regarding a school crisis. While we aim to best support school communities in the midst of crisis, we may not be able to accommodate after-hours support. We encourage you to call at any time and consultation will be provided when possible.
As teachers and school personnel, it is likely that students and families you interact with each day are grieving. These families may not be aware of the support provided through the Kaleidoscope Program. School-based support is open to students in 1st through 12th grades within Lenawee County Schools. Should families be interested in school-based grief support services, the parent/guardian can complete the Request for Services Form or call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323.
As teachers and school personnel, you may find there to be many grieving students within your school. Support groups allow grieving students the opportunity to connect and relate with others within their school who have experienced a loss. Group participants may have a variety of types of losses (i.e. loss of parent, grandparent, sibling). Groups meet once per week during the school day and are co-facilitated by the Kaleidoscope Program Liaison and the school’s counselor/social worker. The Kaleidoscope Program has limited capacity to run school-based groups and they are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. If your school is interested in collaborating with the Kaleidoscope Program by hosting a grief support group at your school, please call Hospice of Lenawee at (517) 263-2323.
